First comes love.
Then comes marriage.
Then comes the… really nasty divorce.
Kate Carter thought she married her soul mate. She thought she had her happily ever after. But seven years into Kate’s marriage, she realizes that her husband Nick is not what she wanted. He’s selfish, he’s oblivious and he doesn’t love her anymore.
Maybe she doesn’t love him anymore either.
Divorce is the only option if either of them wants to find happiness.
Kate and Nick thought they knew what they wanted, but neither is prepared for the heartache that separating will bring them. The journey they embark on is not the freedom they wished for, but a painful look at the people they’ve become.
At the end of it, Kate has to decide if this is really the life she wants or if maybe there’s a way to salvage her broken heart.
This is a new contemporary romance by Rachel Higginson!! Her first one, The Five Stages of Falling in Love, was pure amazing so I had very high expectations of this one…I was not disappointed!! Luckily this one didn’t have me in tears every 5 minutes!
We start out with Kate and Nick who have been married for 7 years and all they do is constantly fight about everything…Kate feels they have done everything they can and decides she wants a divorce…I knew from the start Nick didn’t agree but he wanted to give Kate what she wanted.
He was right. We failed. We were failures at our marriage.
This book is from Kate’s POV…we get to see her ups and downs because of her decision…she has never felt so alone in her life. She has her best friend Kara who I honestly don’t believe she would have survived without her!
“I’m not going to stop, Kate. I need you to know that.”
He didn’t answer specifically. Instead, his voice pitched low and his hand landed on my knee, his fingertips sliding beneath the hem of my dress. “I’m not going to back down.”
Towards the end she was getting so stubborn and was driving me crazy!! I understand she felt she had to go through with what she decided in the beginning but that’s definitely not true!! Your feelings can change, we know she never stopped loving Nick but felt they were bad for each other…people change!!
“Nick, I can’t stop,” I whimpered. “Don’t,” he ordered coarsely. “Don’t stop. Don’t you dare fucking stop.”
Now the real question is…does she continue with what she started and get a divorce? Or do they somehow through everything make it work? You’ll have to pick up a copy yourself to figure that out!!
